Bali was never really part of the plan. The Island of the Gods draws travelers from all over the world, but it wasn’t exactly at the top of my travel list. As the rainy season rolled into Southeast Asia, I ended up touching down in Bali at the start of June.
I spent my first month in Canggu: a sea of scooters, constant honking, magical sunsets, and nights that seemed to last forever.
The second month took me to Ubud. A lively town balancing modernity and tradition, and a paradise for digital nomads deep in the jungle. With its temples, rice fields and delicious food, it’s the perfect base for endless adventures.
From Uluwatu to Amed, with a stop in Sidemen, I explored the island my own way, alternating between coworking spaces and long rides on a scooter. Here you’ll find my tips, highlights and itineraries.

Respect the offerings
You’ll see small flower baskets placed on the ground or in front of shops. Don’t step on them, walk around instead.
Dress modestly in temples
A sarong is required, shoulders should be covered, and no hats. If you don’t have one, they’re often provided at the entrance.
Don’t touch the head
The head is considered sacred, even for children.
Avoid public displays of affection
Kissing or being overly affectionate in public is frowned upon.
